At the heart of every Birkenstock model is the footbed that started it all. Birkenstock invented the contoured footbed, and in the 1930s introduced the concept of anatomically shaped insoles with incredible support.

The construction has been thought out to the smallest detail. Just as it was when it was first introduced, our footbed is still made of cork and natural latex, and contoured in the shape of a healthy foot. These contours ensure proper weight distribution with raised arches to help support the foot’s natural shape and structure. This means your feet, knees and hips are relieved from pressure, allowing for a more relaxed, straighter back. What's more, the footbed gets more comfortable as it adapts to your feet thanks to the high elasticity of the cork material.
